Steven Westra, P.E.
President
Steven Westra, P.E. is a civil/structural engineer with over 15 years of engineering experience in the fire training metal building industry. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Wisconsin - Platteville. Currently the Director of Engineering and President of Fire Facilities, Inc., Steven has held various positions throughout his career including Project Engineer, Product Development Engineer, Engineering Supervisor, and Director of Engineering. Through prior employment experience, he has also been involved in the construction and inspection fields of both buildings and bridges. He is a licensed engineer in 47 states, a Professional Member of American Institute of Steel Construction, and also holds U.S. Patent(s).
Charles A. Irons
Director of Sales
Charles has over 31 years of management experience beginning in 1980 in the web offset printing industry selling and marketing capital equipment. He began his career working for the Masonite Corporation, followed by the Boise Cascade Corporation. Charles is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, with a degree in Business Administration.
John Schauf
Regional Sales Manager
John earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Wisconsin - Platteville. After college, John worked in the private sector as both an Operations Manager, and later as a General Manager. His responsibilities encompassed daily operations and new project execution, including research, planning, design, budgeting, and contracting.
In 1994, he joined the Kilbourn Fire Department and has been involved in all aspects of the department's response operations, including municipal & rural fire, EMS, and specialized rescue. Throughout his tenure, John has held the positions of Lieutenant, Instructor / Training Officer, and Company Captain. John has also served the department through committee appointments, ranging from equipment, recruitment, retention, and fund raising. Concurrently, he was a member of the municipal Ambulance Service as an EMT-Intermediate and served as a Crew Chief on an ALS Unit.
In 2003, John joined Fire Facilities Inc. as a Regional Manager and consultant, bringing together the experiences of building construction management, fire & EMS service and an appreciation of the importance of quality training. Servicing the central United States and western Canada, John has been involved in the successful development of over 200 training facilities.
Matt Doyle
Regional Sales Manager
Matt Doyle has over 15 years of service with the Army National Guard, earning Army Achievement and Commendation medals. He has also been a member of multiple Michigan volunteer fire departments in the roles of Firefighter, Fire Marshal, Captain, and Assistant Chief, retiring in 2001. Matt attended the Davenport Business College, and has been involved in the metal building industry for a substantial portion of his career. He is responsible for Sales and Market Development for Fire Facilities in the Southeastern US.
Steven Harms
Regional Sales Manager
Steven brings a wealth of leadership and firefighting knowledge to his customers. In addition to over 20 years in construction management, he has previously been president of the board for Genesee Fire Department in Colorado, as well as the Highland Rescue Ambulance Team. He has over 16 years of fire experience, including four years as a chief, Fire Fighter 3 Certified, HazMat, Incident Command Certified, and First Responder roles. He is helicopter certified, has multiple lifesaving awards, and is Wildland Fire/Crew Chief certified. In addition to his fire background, Steven's leadership experience includes 10 years running his own company. He has a BS from the Colorado Auraria Campus. As a Regional Manager for Fire Facilities, he enjoys helping other fire professionals bring safe, effective live fire training to their organizations. Steven's territory includes US Northwest.
David Tusio
Regional Sales Manager
With 19 years of firefighting experience and four years in the US Navy, David possesses a thorough understanding of the importance of safe, effective training and education. David has served the Five Points, DE Fire Company, Cheswold Fire Company, and is a member of the Regional Special Operations for Kent County, DE. He has a degree from Wilmington College in Criminal Justice. Prior to joining Fire Facilities, David held a sales position serving the healthcare and hospice industry. As a Regional Manager at Fire Facilities, David puts his experience to use guiding fire department leaders through the process of planning and constructing their training facility. David serves the Mid Atlantic Coast.
Nick Corgiat
Senior Project Manager
As Senior Project Manager at Fire Facilities, Nick oversees all aspects of construction for customers opting to utilize FFI's turnkey services. Working with FFI's engineering and sales teams and subcontractors, he is responsible for ensuring that projects are completed to plan, on time, and in a safe manner. Nick has been in the construction industry since 1990 and owned his own construction business for 15 years prior to joining Fire Facilities. His military experience includes two years in the United States Navy, and he is a veteran of the Persian Gulf War.
Don Kunert
Structural Engineer
Donald is part of the behind the scenes staff that helps create your fire training tower. He is a Milwaukee School of Engineering graduate, with a BS in Architectural Engineering. The full time engineering team at Fire Facilities is an integral part of a process that provides customers with a single source for turnkey building solutions with an endless array of custom options. Don's duties include helping with structural calculations, design, layouts, proposal drawings and technical drawings.
Shelley Mertig
Inside Sales Coordinator
Shelley Mertig is a veteran member of the Fire Facilities Team, working with clients in developing their training structure concepts, preparing parts quotes and budgetary proposals, as well as assembling bids and finalizing contracts. She is the coordinator of the company's "First Responder" emergency response team. She is also an active member of the Dodge County Citizen Corps and Dodge County CERT team, as well as a volunteer for the American Red Cross. Shelley holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
